Kids playing free youth tennis with CourtBloom in Laconia, New Hampshire

Be the reason a kid can't wait to come back.

Free tennis, something good to eat, and a grown-up who believes in them. That's what kids get at CourtBloom in Laconia. We need more of those grown-ups.

Takes about a minute. No tennis experience needed.

It's never really about tennis.

  • A five-year-old too nervous to step on the court, until his big brother showed him how.
  • A four-year-old who now asks to come back every single weekend.
  • A bagel after every session, with a note of encouragement written on the bag.

Real moments from CourtBloom sessions in Franklin, as reported by the Concord Monitor.

“Funding comes and goes. The world does what it does. We'll still be here. That's the whole point.”
Grant Workman, Executive Director
Kids and families sharing food after a CourtBloom session
“Nobody earns a plate and nobody asks for one. We just set the table and everybody eats.”
Sylvie

Food is just part of the day, the way it is for any team. Local restaurant partners help make it happen, and volunteers make sure every kid and family feels welcome at the table.

Volunteer in Laconia and help Lakes Region kids play for free.

Laconia is one of CourtBloom's busiest communities, with weekly programming, an after-school partnership, and high school students training as coaches. Volunteers help us keep all three going.

Weekly community programming
Free, recurring youth tennis every week, open to kids ages 2–17 with equipment provided.
After-school programs
Tennis and movement delivered with community and school partners once the school day ends.
Student pathways
Internships and student partnerships with Laconia High School and Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith.
Youth Leaders
High-schoolers ages 13–17 help coach during regular Laconia sessions and earn documented volunteer hours.

Volunteers from Gilford, Belmont, Meredith, Sanbornton, Gilmanton, and Tilton are welcome too.

Questions

Can Laconia High School students get involved?

Yes. Laconia High School is one of our student-pathway partners, and students ages 13–17 can also join Youth Leaders during regular Laconia programming.

Is there a weekday option in Laconia?

Yes. Along with weekly community sessions, our Laconia after-school program runs during the school week.

Do I need to know how to play tennis?

No. Most roles have nothing to do with tennis. On court, you'll be helping CourtBloom coaches, who lead every session.

How much time does it take?

Whatever fits your life. Some people help at a single event, others come regularly. We'll find something that works for you.

What screening is involved?

Volunteers who work directly with kids complete CourtBloom screening, training, and youth-safety onboarding before their first session.

Can this count for school hours, an internship, or a practicum?

Yes. Open “Add details” on the form and tell us what you need. Students ages 13–17 can also join our Youth Leaders program.
